“Corey Kilgannon has a rare ability to make you feel like you are in the room with him as he sings. Building a vulnerable wall of the turmoil in his soul, Kilgannon is able to put his self-revelations to some beautiful music.”

-Ear to the Ground

Born in the outskirts of New York City and raised along the coast of Florida, Corey Kilgannon is an emerging indie-folk artist who possesses a keen understanding of songcraft that is perplexing for someone who’s just twenty-three years old. After a season residing in Nashville, TN, Kilgannon currently lives and tours out of his hometown, Jacksonville, FL. He has spent significant time over the last few years in New York, revisiting his roots and processing his beginnings -- this time served as a catalyst for Kilgannon writing The Hollow II, his latest release.

His gift for evocative melody and emotionally intuitive songwriting has led him to share stages with artists such as Jon Foreman, JOSEPH, Penny and Sparrow, David Ramirez, and the late Dr. Ralph Stanley. With a remarkably large discography for his age, the therapeutic process behind each song is clear as his rich, yet conversational voice soars over lyrics ranging from simple love songs to unsettling reflections on the loss of love that seems so prevalent in life. Set against a backdrop of acoustic and atmospheric textures, each track on The Hollow II reflects his traditional singer-songwriter influences such as John Prine, Bob Dylan, and John Denver yet evokes a richer and bolder sound with fuller arrangements than his previous studio work.

Over the last several years, Kilgannon has garnered a considerable fanbase in cities across the country, becoming known for radically stripped down sets under bridges to room-quieting performances in packed out venues like Eddie’s Attic and Rockwood Music Hall. You can catch glimpse of his stage presence and personality captured on film in the Audiotree Live session recorded in 2016.

While Kilgannon had the opportunity to support some of his musical heroes on tour, he also spent a dark season confined to his house with a broken back while grieving the loss of a close friend. Throughout these triumphs and tragedies, Kilgannon wrote the material for his highly-anticipated full length album, The Hollow II. Released independently on October 20th, 2017, The Hollow II is the culmination of a journey Kilgannon began in his earlier EP’s The Hollow and Hospital Hymns.

While much of his past songwriting has marginally dealt with doubt, The Hollow II makes no effort to conceal his impatience and anger with easy answers. The Hollow II is an epic of unresolved heartbreak, questioning and sadness. The album finds Kilgannon opening up about his family, childhood, and broken relationships. Kilgannon and his bandmates took polaroids throughout the recording of The Hollow II, which is the perfect metaphor for the album-- a snapshot of a time of grief and soul searching. Though he remains true to his singer-songwriter roots, The Hollow II is undeniably Kilgannon’s most fearless and transparent work to date.
