Music has the power to transport us to another time and place and Billy Gilmore has been harnessing that power with a broad audience of fellow music lovers and passionate musicians for over 30 years. With a career that spans several decades, numerous bands, and multiple countries, progressive bluegrass multi-instrumentalist Billy Gilmore has found great joy and satisfaction in making music and sharing it with fans and people all over the world.
Billy Gilmore started playing the five-string banjo when he was seven years old, and quickly added guitar, mandolin, dobro, fiddle, pedal steel, bass and keyboards to his list of instruments, all of which he has mastered, in any style from bluegrass to jazz, swing to funk and soul and rock and roll and all points in between. Gilmore has toured and recorded with an impressive number of groups, including Brittany Reilly & The Almost Acoustic Band, Crazy Fingers, The Bluegrass Travelers, Quartermoon, Aquaphonics, Stonehouse and the Hickory Project, and is the band leader and frontman for the juggernaut The Grass Is Dead, a band whose fresh bluegrass twist on the classic Grateful Dead catalogue has quickly earned them legions of fans from the Rockies to the Atlantic. When The Grass Is Dead is off the road, Billy is exploring his other creative outlets as a hot picker, and tours with a revolving cast of characters from his past, present and future…
