ABOUT JAX DIAPER BANK
Founded in October 2019, the Diaper Bank for Northeast Florida is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to streamline the collection and distribution of diapers to low-income families across Northeast Florida while also raising awareness that “basic human needs” include diapers. Crystal Parks, a Jacksonville native, founded the Diaper Bank after learning about the critical issue of diaper need. Being a mom of a toddler, Crystal understands the importance of keeping a baby clean, dry and healthy. She never once thought of diapers being the one basic need many parents struggle to buy. Reading articles about the number of families that re-use dirty diapers left Crystal wondering how she could help ease the burden for families struggling with diaper need in her own community. After searching online for a local diaper bank and realizing there were none...Crystal decided to start one herself!
According to The National Diaper Bank Network, 1 in 3 families have reported a diaper need. Diaper need is the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers in order to keep a baby clean, dry and healthy. Low-income families can spend up to 20% of their monthly income on diapers—on average, diapers cost a family up to $100 per month, per child. For some families, decisions often come down to food or diapers. Neither WIC nor SNAP (formerly called “food stamps”) can be used to purchase diapers.
The need for diapers is great and continues to grow in our local area. Diaper bank agency partner, Community Health Outreach has distributed 20,000 diapers each month since the COVID-19 outbreak began in March. The agency typically distributes 3,000 to 4,000 diapers each month.
In addition to your donation made to the Jax Diaper Bank by registering for this class, you can donate any size any brand diapers, make a donation via Jax Diaper Bank Amazon Wishlist or host a diaper drive. For more information, visit www.jaxdiaperbank.com
