Experience an extraordinary evening of jazz at the renowned Blue Jay Listening Room on August 3rd at 8pm. This exclusive performance features an exceptional collaboration of four virtuoso musicians who, despite their individual successes, are coming together for the very first time as a quartet.

Joshua Bowlus is a Jacksonville-based pianist, bandleader & composer and is a regular performer at Blue Jay. He is a band leader for his own trio as well as a collaborator with vocalist Linda Cole, and has also performed with a number of modern jazz headliners including Jazzmeia Horn, Chantae Cann, and Patrick Bartley. Stan Piper, a masterful bassist also based in Jacksonville, works and records with a variety of bands throughout the Southeast region. Ulysses Owens Jr., a GRAMMY award-winning drummer/composer/bandleader, is based in NYC and is also originally from Jacksonville. He now splits his time living and working between Jax and NYC. He has a number of albums released under his own name as bandleader and is also well known for his supportive work with acclaimed artists Kurt Elling, Christian McBride, and Mulgrew Miller. The dynamic Benny Benack III, renowned for his prowess on both trumpet and vocals, works actively as an NYC-based bandleader. He is known for his work with the 8-Bit Big Band, Christian McBride Big Band, and collaborations with up-and-coming vocalist Veronica Swift.

The theme of this jazz quartet performance is a celebration of improvisation and musical synergy. While this band has never played together before in this exact combination of musicians, their individual reputations precede them. Each member brings a unique perspective and a wealth of experience from their diverse musical backgrounds. The group plans to explore a repertoire of inventive interpretations, timeless classics, and some original compositions. The pure spontaneity of this ensemble and this event is sure to provide an unforgettable experience for every jazz enthusiast.
