Join us for the inaugural North Florida Floating Lanterns Festival presented by Jacksonville Magazine, an event that celebrates autumn and the season of being thankful. The sparkling 14-acre Crystal Lagoon inside the community of Beachwalk is the setting for the family-friendly festival. Modeled after water lantern floats held in tropical locations like Hawaii, we believe this new event will become a First Coast tradition. Bring your children, friends and neighbors and share what makes you happy and thankful—and do it in a way that creates lifelong memories for all. We are encouraging those who wish to attend to purchase lantern packages well in advance. The venue has limited capacity for people and vehicles—and we expect it to sell out.
Picture a beautiful lake filled with glowing lanterns gently floating across its shimmering waters (photo above is from the annual Lantern Float Hawaii). More than just pretty decorations, each water lantern will be adorned with personal messages of hope and thanks. And you are invited to be a part of it all.
Use your lanterns to create twinkling one-of-a-kind works of art featuring drawings and words of hope, love, kindness and peace. Write a prayer in remembrance of a deceased loved one, make a wish for the upcoming new year, give thanks to blessings received in 2019, ask Santa for a special present...it’s up to you. Use your lantern to express messages that are closest to your heart.
Each ticket to the North Florida Floating Lanterns Festival includes admission for four, four floating water lanterns, and markers for writing messages on your lanterns. Each ticket provides admission for four attendees only and tickets must be purchased to gain entry to the festival site and parking area.
Families of five are able to purchase a separate ticket if there is a child 3 years old or younger. If your party has five or more, another general admission ticket must be purchased. If the fifth person is a child 3 and under, a separate kids ticket must be purchased for entry.
Your pre-ordered lanterns and materials will be ready and waiting for to you at the event. Look for the check-in tent when you arrive. Be sure to have your ticket—either a printed copy, or on your smartphone. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of time to adorn your lantern with messages and decoration.
Please note that lanterns not purchased through the North Florida Floating Lanterns Festival will not be permitted to be a part of the event. You cannot bring your own lanterns.
At approximately 7:30 PM—about two hours after the sun has set in the western sky—festival goers will be invited to launch their lanterns into the glimmering water. Each individually adorned lantern will be joined by hundreds of others, all creating a twinkling landscape of dreams, hopes, remembrances and love. All lanterns will collected at the end of the evening.
In addition to the cost of materials, each lantern purchase pays for the night's entertainment, removal of lanterns at event’s end and cleaning the Crystal Lagoon as necessary, as well as a donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida. Lanterns are made from 100% biodegradable paper and wood. Each comes with a LED bulb that can be installed easily inside the lantern via an adhesive pad. No candles or open flames of any kind are permitted. All lanterns will be collected at the end of the event but will not be returned.
Ticket Alert: As of August 21, the original number of lantern packages has sold out. We are thrilled to announce that because of this overwhelming response, we have opened 250 more packages for purchase! We still cannot guarantee unreserved lanterns will be available for purchase at the event as this new capacity again may be reached prior to November 16.
Please note: We are not releasing flying lanterns into the air. It is illegal to do so in the state of Florida.
Each ticket purchased for this event comes with a complimentary subscription to Jacksonville Magazine. Simply email your name and mailing address to [email protected] and your subscription will begin within 4 to 6 weeks.
