Enjoy St. Augustine's Night of Lights from a whole new perspective on the Schooner Freedom.
She’s the only schooner charter vessel between Charleston and the Florida Keys and she was built in Norfolk, Virginia and sailed to Northeast Florida in 2001 by owners Captain John Zaruba and wife Sarah, also known as the “Admiral.” With nearly 2,400 square feet of sail, the Freedom is a testament to naval history and the blockade runners of the early 1800s. Family owned and operated, Captain Zaruba and his crew’s vast knowledge of sailing history and their deep passion for the ocean make an excursion about the 76-foot vessel a truly memorable experience.
So just us for this private outing featuring beautiful scenery, delicious food and libations and experience the Nation's Oldest City from a whole new perspective.
During this Jacksonville Magazine Explorers Club outing, guests will be treated to gorgeous views of historic St. Augustine from the perspective of a classic sailing vessel. Enjoy a leisurely two-hour sail, and keep an eye out for dolphins or cuddle with someone special while sipping a cool drink. Passengers are always welcome to help set the sails and maybe even take the helm. The voyage has no set course—as we go where the wind takes us—but passengers will enjoy the setting sun and the beauty of the picturesque waterfront and downtown historic district.
The Freedom is an authentic replica of a 19th Century blockade runner. She is a double-masted topsail schooner, built in 1982. Her main mast height is 62 feet and her beam (the width of the deck) is more than 15 feet. Freedom was built with stringent attention paid to water depth and bridge height along the Intracoastal Waterway, making her the ideal vessel for both inland and offshore sailing.
