Arlington Mod & More returns!
2019 TOUR INFO:
Old Arlington, Inc. will host the sixth annual Arlington Mod & More Home Tour celebrating the mid-century architecture of Arlington over two days, Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27. On the tour is a home built in 1951 representative of the start of the mid-century modern style. The home celebrates the simple lines and groundbreaking innovations of the period, such as large windows, as well as the use of metal and concrete. Highlights include furniture, textiles, and other touches indicative of the period as seen above in the swanky Rat Pack styled den. Tour guests will also have the opportunity to experience historic Marabanong, a Victorian mansion featured in the Florida Times Union. Architectural historian Wayne Wood called it “one of the most significant residences in Jacksonville,” both for its architecture and its “storied past,” which at one point included a small zoo on the property, the house’s use as a health resort for out-of-towners and as a location for an Ethel Barrymore movie. We even are featuring a 1958 fallout shelter where the owners have recreated the look and feel ready for a family at a moment’s notice – right down to the gamma ray survey meter!
The tour will begin at the National Historic Landmark Norman Studios, 6337 Arlington Road, Jacksonville, FL 32211 where the self-guided tour sites/info will be available. Norman Studios will also be open for touring.
